Bears- The Alsek RRC, CAFN Renewable Resources, and YG’s Department of Environment held a public meeting in October 2008, to discuss the possibility of a grizzly bear population study here, and to talk about bear and human conflict issues. Since that meeting it was agreed that more focus was needed on reducing issues between people and bears in the communities, and that a grizzly bear population study could be revisited in the future.

How can we as a community and as individuals work to reduce conflicts with bears? What has been effective in other communities? Come for dinner, and hear from guest speakers from other communities that have had similar issues, and talk about what they have done to resolve bear human conflict.
Two of our speakers are-
Jacques Drisdelle- Is from Williams Lake B.C. He is the provincial coordinator for the Bear Aware program.
Kim Titchner- Is from Canmore Alberta and is the Education program Director for the Bow Valley WildSmart Community Program.
Both of these speakers specialize in working with communities living with bears.
